Lupe Ortiz and David Sims Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99 [CHICO, CA]

Chico Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99 at Neal Road Kills 2 and Sends 5 Others to Hospital

 
CHICO, CA (June 10, 2020) – Two people were killed following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Chico.
 
The crash happened around 12:47 p.m. on Highway 99 at Neal Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig heading north on Highway 99 did not slow down when approaching stopped traffic at the light. It then rear-ended a Honda Accord, which struck into another car. A total of six vehicles got involved in the crash.
 
The impact killed both the driver and passenger of the Accord.
 
The Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 55-year-old Lupe Ortiz and 55-year-old David Sims, both of Los Molinos.
 
Paramedics transported five other people to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
While alcohol and drugs are not suspected, CHP is still working to find out why the big rig driver did not slow at the light.
