Lupe Ortiz and David Sims Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident
DURHAM, CA (June 12, 2020) — Lupe Ortiz and David Sims, both 55-year-old residents of Los Molinos, died in a multi-car crash in Chico on Wednesday, June 10.
CHP said a big-rig moving north on Highway 99 did not slow down when approaching stopped traffic at the light. Then it collided into the back of a Honda Accord and killed both the driver and passenger.
The massive impact then shoved the Accord into another car, ultimately impacting a total of six vehicles.
No one in those other vehicles had serious injuries.
Officials identified the driver of the big rig as 22-year-old Jobanjit Singh of Sacramento.
While alcohol and drugs are not suspected, CHP is still working to find out why Singh did not slow at the light.
Officials closed Highway 99 for over twelve hours while they conducted their on-scene investigation.
During this difficult time, Sweet James would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Lupe Ortiz and David Sims.
