Algetta Strother Killed in DUI Street Race on 9th Street [SAN BERNARDINO, CA]

Mother Dead, Son Arrested in DUI Street Race on 9th Street near Waterman Avenue

 
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (June 10, 2020) – A mother was killed following a DUI street race Wednesday evening in San Bernardino.
 
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on 9th Street, just east of Waterman Avenue.
 
Algetta Michelle Strother, 54, of San Bernardino was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe. At the same time, her son, 26-year-old Steven Kirk Strother, also of San Bernardino, was driving a Buick Century.
 
Police said the mother and son were racing westbound on 9th Street, when they attempted to pass a Toyota Camry, driven by a 28-year-old San Bernardino man. The Tahoe rolled over and struck a tree, a pipe and a light pole. The Century struck the Camry.
 
As a result, Algetta Strother died at the scene. Paramedics transported her passenger, a 21-year-old Buena Park woman, to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Steven Strother and the Camry’s two occupants were unharmed.
 
Police arrested Steven on suspicion of driving under the influence.
