2 Hospitalized after Bicycle Crash on North Friant Road near Millerton Road
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (June 9, 2020) – Two people sustained injuries in a bicycle accident on Friant Road, Tuesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 6:30 PM. For reasons still unknown, a woman driving a 1998 Honda Civic drifted right into the gravel shoulder. Then, the driver overcorrected to the left and hit two bicyclists in the eastbound lane.
Both bicyclists sustained major injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where they are expected to survive.
Meanwhile, the driver and her three adult male passengers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
CHP believes that speed or distracted driving were factors in the crash. In addition, they noted that both cyclists were wearing their helmets at the time of the incident. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
