Driver Dies after Crashing Car into Center Divider on 80 Freeway at San Pablo Dam Road
RICHMOND, CA (June 8, 2020) – A woman died in a crash Monday morning in Richmond, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 6:35 a.m. on eastbound 80 Freeway, just west of the San Pablo Dam Road exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a black Honda Civic was traveling eastbound when it lost control and crashed into the right shoulder. It then veered back across the freeway and struck the center divider.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Shalene Butler of San Francisco, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators have not determined what caused Butler to lose control, but they do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
The CHP is looking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash and urged them to call 510-457-2875.
