Two Drivers Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on Weedpatch Highway [Bakersfield, CA]

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 7, 2020) – Two drivers sustained injuries in a head-on crash on Weedpatch Highway, Sunday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 8:40 PM. A northbound Subaru crossed double yellow lines in an attempt to pass by traffic. Then, it collided head-on with a southbound Chevy Suburban near Bengston Avenue.
 
Both drivers sustained major injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, six other people sustained minor to moderate injuries. However, it is unknown whether or not they needed hospitalization.
 
Officers temporarily blocked affected areas for about an hour and a half.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
