1 Killed, 12 Injured in Head-On Collision on Highway 97 [Entiat, WA]

Fatal Car Accident in Entiat Injures 12

 
ENTIAT, WA (June 9, 2020) — A head-on collision on Highway 97 near Entiat left two people dead and 12 others injured Sunday afternoon.
 
The Washington State Patrol said the accident involved a van, a Ford pickup truck towing a camping trailer, and a GMC pickup truck towing a boat.
 
The van was carrying nine people. The Ford was occupied by a couple in their 70s, and the GMC had three people inside it at the time of the crash.
 
Based on a preliminary investigation, the van was southbound on Highway 97 on the east side of the Columbia River near Entiat. For inexplicable reasons, it veered into the opposite lane and then collided head-on with the Ford.
 
As a result of the impact, the Ford overturned and its camper detached. The vehicle then slammed into the southbound GMC that was traveling behind the van.
 
The WSP confirmed that the 29-year-old driver of the van and one of its passengers died at the scene. The remaining seven passengers were transported to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee with unspecified injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the couple occupying the Ford, and the 72-year-old driver and two passengers in the GMC also sustained injuries. Emergency crews rushed them to Central Washington Hospital. Updates on the severity of injuries were not immediately available
 
The cause of the crash was unknown. The investigators are still working on the case.
