17-Year-Old Girl Killed in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run crash on Mesa Rock Road near Mesa Ranch Drive [ESCONDIDO, CA]

Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash on Mesa Rock Road in Escondido

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (June 6, 2020) – A 17-year-old girl died in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning in Escondido.
 
The crash happened around 12:35 a.m. on Mesa Rock Road near Mesa Ranch Drive.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the teen had been standing outside of a vehicle parked on the right shoulder talking with four friends. She and three of the friends then crossed the street. As they were crossing, a northbound pearl white Toyota Highlander approached at a high rate of speed and struck her.
 
Her friends at the scene, as well as nearby neighbors, assisted the teen, but she succumbed to her injuries. Her name was not immediately available.
 
The Toyota did not stop and has not yet been located.
 
Investigators asked the public late Saturday for assistance locating the involved SUV. The vehicle was believed to have damage to the right front headlight area and right front mirror.
 
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities urged witnesses to contact the CHP Border Communications Center at 858-637-3800.
