Gary Hurlburt Killed in DUI Crash on Manzanita Avenue [CARMICHAEL, CA]

Adrian Almaraz Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael

 
CARMICHAEL, CA (June 5, 2020) – A man died after being struck by a drunk driver while riding his scooter Friday morning in Carmichael.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:20 a.m. in the 4700 block of Manzanita Avenue, just north of Winding Way.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old Adrian Philip Almaraz of Fair Oaks was driving a GMC pickup truck on Manzanita Avenue. For unknown reasons, he swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a pedestrian on a motorized scooter. He also hit a power pole and a Toyota Camry.
 
The pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Gary Hurlburt of Carmichael, died at the scene.
 
Police later determined that Almaraz was driving under the influence of alcohol. They arrested him and booked him into the Sacramento County Jail on felony DUI charges.
 
The incident is on active investigation.
