Off-Duty Police Officer Dies after Crashing His Motorcycle into SUV in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (June 4, 2020) – An off-duty police officer died after crashing his motorcycle into an SUV Thursday afternoon in Long Beach.
The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. on Ocean Boulevard near Esperanza Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, a black motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Ocean Boulevard. At the same time, a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee made a left turn from 7th Place to westbound Ocean Boulevard.
The motorcyclist was unable to stop in time and struck the side of the Jeep. The impact activated the SUV’s airbags and pushed it up onto a curb on the westbound side of Ocean Boulevard.
The motorcyclist suffered significant injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died.
The Long Beach Police Officer’s Association confirmed in a Facebook post that the victim is 33-year-old officer Anton Fischer who joined the force in 2017. He was driving to work when the crash happened.
The driver of the SUV stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
We extend our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Anton Fischer.
