Heather Maciel Killed in Bicycle Hit-and-Run Crash on Blackstone Street [TULARE, CA]

Barry Dantzler Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash at Blackstone Street and Prosperity Avenue

 
TULARE, CA (May 29, 2020) – A woman who died in a bicycle hit-and-run crash Friday evening in Tulare County has been identified.
 
The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. in the area of Blackstone Street and Prosperity Avenue.
 
Police said they spotted Barry Tarreell Dantzler, 30, at a Motel 6 in Tulare. Dantzler was wanted for a homicide on Tuesday morning. As police tried to stop the suspect, he failed to yield and sped away.
 
Dantzler then lost control of his car and hit a utility pole. The impact caused the car to roll over and struck a bicyclist, identified as 44-year-old Heather Maciel.
 
Arriving units pronounced Maciel dead at the scene.
 
Dantzler got out of his car and fled the scene on foot. Police was able to locate him and took him into custody.
 
Further information was not immediately available. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
