HEMET, CA (June 1, 2020) — Two people sustained injuries following a high-speed car accident on Highway 74, east of California Avenue on Tuesday, May 26.
 
According to a witness, he was stopped in heavy traffic inside a construction zone while traveling westbound on Highway 74. Then a Hyundai came speeding up behind him.
 
The Hyundai driver, who was not yet identified, swerved to avoid hitting the witness’ car. This caused the Hyundai to careen into oncoming traffic and collide head-on into the Toyota, the witness stated.
 
CHP, Cal Fire, and other emergency first responders rushed to the scene around 4:30 p.m.
 
Police officers and AMR medics arrived first at the scene and found two wrecked vehicles inside a construction zone. They described it as a silver Toyota Highlander and grey Hyundai Sonata.
 
At least one of the injured drivers was trapped inside their wrecked vehicle. Firefighters responded and used Jaws of Life to extricate the person. Medics rushed the person and the other driver to area hospitals.
 
Fire and rescue officials at the scene described their injuries as critical and moderate.
 
It was not immediately determined if alcohol or drug intoxication contributed as factors in the crash.
