Fatal Valley Center Plane Crash near Palomar Vista Drive
VALLEY, CENTER, CA (May 31, 2020) – A pilot was killed and a passenger was burned following a plane crash Sunday evening in a Valley Center neighborhood.
The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. near 30642 Palomar Vista Drive.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a single-engine plane crashed into the backyard of a residential area for unknown reasons. The plane burst into flames after the crash.
The pilot was trapped inside the aircraft and died at the scene. Officials only identified him as a 57-year-old man.
Citizens were able to pull a juvenile passenger from the plane. Paramedics airlifted the young patient to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment of severe burn injuries. His condition is unknown.
There are no reports of anyone hurt on the ground, the FAA spokesperson said.
Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the accident and responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
