Man in Wheelchair Killed, Jonathan Rodriguez Arrested after Fontana Crash

 
FONTANA, CA (May 27, 2020) – A pedestrian in a wheelchair died in a hit-and-run crash on Foothill Boulevard, Wednesday evening.
 
According to the Fontana Police Department, the incident happened at about 9:40 PM. A pedestrian had been riding on Foothill Boulevard in a motorized wheelchair when a white 2001 Ford Taurus hit him near Hemlock Avenue.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the victim, identified as a 55-year-old San Bernardino man, dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the Ford driver fled the area.
 
Officers found the abandoned suspect vehicle a short distance from the crash scene. Then, the driver, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Rodriguez, later arrived at the Fontana Police Department to turn himself in.
 
Fontana police continue to investigate the crash. Investigators ask witnesses to call them at (909) 350-7770 as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
