Freight Train Hits Car at Sierra Highway and Avenue I Killing Two Men
LANCASTER, CA (May 29, 2020) – The men who died in a train crash Friday morning has been identified by the coroner’s office as Quarter Hill Residents Brittan Nolte, 30, and Jeffrey Russ, 37.
The crash happened around 5:14 a.m. at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue I.
Firefighters said a freight train struck an SUV that was occupied by Nolte and Russ. It was unclear whether the vehicle was parked on the tracks or attempting to cross when it was hit.
Paramedics pronounced both men dead at the scene.
Officials believe the security arms were down and the SUV had crossed the safety barrier at the time of the crash.
No other injuries were reported. Further investigation is underway.
