2 Dead after Train Hits Car near West Avenue I and Sierra Highway

 
LANCASTER, CA (May 29, 2020) – Authorities identified 30-year-old Brittan Nolte and 37-year-old Jeffrey Russ as the two men killed after a Union Pacific train hit a car near West Avenue I, Friday morning.
 
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at about 5:15 AM. For reasons still under investigation, a Union Pacific train hit an SUV near the intersection of West Avenue I and Sierra Highway.
 
The Los Angeles County Fire Department later confirmed that Nolte and Russ, both residents of Quartz Hill, died at the scene. However, no other injuries were sustained in the crash.
 
Investigators believe that the SUV attempted to cross the safety barrier, with the security arms down at the time of the crash. Anyone with additional information can call Lancaster Sheriff ‘s Station at (661) 948-8466. Authorities will release more details once they become available.
