Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 79 near Dugan Drive
TEMECULA, CA (February 8, 2020) – A motorcyclist who died Saturday afternoon after crashing on Highway 79 in Temecula has been identified as Michael Cooper, 74, of Balboa.
The crash happened around 2:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 79, just west of Dugan Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cooper was heading north on a 1971 BSA V-1 motorcycle. He failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his bike, and was ejected.
Passing motorists stopped to help and provided life-saving measures, but Cooper died at the scene.
Crews briefly shut down the highway in both directions while they cleared the crash scene.
Police are still investigating this fatal crash and more details will be provided once accessible.
