Car Fatally Hits Man on 8 Freeway near Alpine
ALPINE, CA (February 17, 2020) — A 24-year-old man was hit and killed by a car on 8 Freeway Thursday afternoon in Alpine.
According to the California Highway Patrol, they learned about the crash at about 1:30 p.m. near the West Willows Road exit. The victim was a Florida man. The authorities did not release his name pending family notification.
An investigation showed that a 70-year-old Lemon Grove man was driving a Lincoln MKZ sedan in the far right lane when the car veered to the right. The Lincoln then hit the pickup and the 24-year-old man.
The victim was reportedly standing on the right shoulder next to the pickup, adjusting some loose items in the truck’s bed. Emergency personnel airlifted him to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego where he later died.
Meantime, the man driving the Lincoln stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. The investigators said intoxication was not a factor in the crash.
