Mamlekat Joseph Dead after Long Beach Bus Accident

 
LONG BEACH, CA (February 11, 2020) – A 71-year-old woman identified as Mamlekat Joseph of Long Beach died in a pedestrian accident with a bus on Saturday, February 8.
 
According to Lt. James Richardson, they received reports of an injury traffic crash on Third Street and Magnolia Avenue around 11:15 a.m.
 
Officers responded and discovered a woman trapped under a yellow charter bus. Long Beach paramedics gave medical aid to the woman. Yet she still died from her injuries at the scene.
 
Investigators later found out that Joseph was crossing Third Street, southbound on the west side of Magnolia Avenue. Joseph waited at the intersection until the street sign showed the “Walk” signal and she started to cross, police stated.
 
While in the crosswalk, a 2002 Bluebird bus moving north on Magnolia Avenue and trying to turn left onto Third Street struck Joseph.
 
The bus driver, a 25-year-old Van Nuys man, stayed on scene and officials later released him. Neither intoxication nor distracted driving was a factor in the collision. The driver had a valid license and proof of insurance.
 
There were no passengers on the bus when the accident happened, Richardson stated.
