SACRAMENTO, CA (February 7, 2020) – A driver suffered injuries after a train crashed into a van on Elder Creek Road, early Friday morning.
 
According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the incident happened at about 2:45 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a white Ford van was on the train tracks while the crossing guards were down. There, the train struck the van and pushed it several hundred feet down the tracks.
 
The impact of the crash sent the van down an embankment, where it came to rest in a large puddle of mud.
 
Emergency crews had to use power tools to pry the driver’s side door open. Then, they removed the vehicle’s dash from the driver’s legs. Medics then transported the driver to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
 
Follow railroad warning signs, and do not try to beat an oncoming train. Avoid distracting activities around railroad tracks, such as texting and headphone usage. Remember that trains cannot stop quickly enough to avoid a collision.
