Ronald Estes Arrested, Motorcycle Rider Killed after Oceanside Truck Crash
OCEANSIDE, CA (February 10, 2020) — Officials arrested Ronald Estes, 64, after he made an illegal turn that caused a fatal crash on Saturday, February 8.
Police Sgt. Rick Davis said that the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. as the 53-year-old motorcycle rider traveled west on Oceanside Boulevard.
At the same time, a truck driven by Estes pulled a 15-foot trailer loaded with mulch, pulled out of El Corazon Compost Facility. Then it turned left onto Oceanside Boulevard. The roadway was posted for right turns only, Davis stated.
The motorcycle rider had just passed the intersection of El Camino Real when the truck and trailer pulled out across his path.
The vehicles crashed in the left lane. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was not breathing and paramedics were not able to revive him.
The identity of the victim was withheld until his family could be notified.
Officials arrested Estes on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and booked into jail. They do not suspect him of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
