One Fatally Hurt after Pedestrian Accident on Artesia Boulevard

 
LONG BEACH, CA (February 7, 2020) – One person died following a pedestrian accident on Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach on Tuesday, February 4.
 
According to police, the crash occurred at about 6:25 p.m. near Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.
 
Police said that the pedestrian was standing in the roadway and wasn’t in a crosswalk. They reported that he wore a dark jacket and blue jeans. An 18-year-old driving a GMC Yukon noticed the pedestrian and tried to swerve to prevent hitting him. Yet, the left front part of the SUV struck the man, police said.
 
The SUV traveled around 35 mph on westbound Artesia before the incident, authorities said. The force of the accident sent the pedestrian across the median and into the eastbound lanes of Artesia. Then another car struck him, police said.
 
Both drivers remained at the scene, administered aid to the pedestrian, and cooperated with the investigation, police stated. There is no sign that distracted driving or DUI played a role in the collision.
 
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian, who died at the scene, police stated.
