Channing Christy Injured in Bicycle Crash on Highway 116 [Cotati, CA]

Channing Christy Identified as Bicyclist Hit by Big Rig on Highway 116

 
COTATI, CA (February 5, 2020) – Authorities identified 24-year-old Channing Christy of Ukiah as the bicyclist struck by a big rig on Highway 116, Wednesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 8:00 PM. Christy was riding eastbound when a Safeway truck came up behind him and hit his bicycle near Stony Point Road.
 
Emergency responders rushed Christy to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Recent updates report that the victim is now in stable condition.
 
Meanwhile, the big rig driver, identified as 55-year-old David Zarate , remained and cooperated with investigators. Zarate claimed that he did not see Christy before the collision. However, investigators observed that the bicycle’s flashing red tail light was activated at the time of the crash.
 
CHP officers ruled out impairment as a factor in the accident. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
