Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway near L Street in Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA, CA (February 04, 2020) — A wrong-way crash on 5 Freeway near L Street in Chula Vista left at least two people dead Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports about the accident at 4:55 a.m. A preliminary investigation found that the wrong-way vehicle had its lights off while it traveled north on southbound 5 Freeway.
The officials confirmed that two people died in the crash. Emergency personnel transported a third person to the hospital with serious injuries.
The crash also damaged a dozen vehicles. Seven of them were directly involved, while the other five were damaged by debris.
Meantime, the southbound lanes were closed during the investigation and emergency response.
