Joseph Denson Killed, Christian Hunt Injured in Crash on Highway 20 at Road A [Ukiah, CA]

Joseph Denson and Christian Hunt Involved in Deadly Ukiah Crash

 
UKIAH, CA (January 31, 2020) — A crash on Highway 20 at Road A in Ukiah left a person dead Tuesday morning, January 28.
 
The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 32-year-old Joseph Denson of Ukiah. As per their investigation, Denson was driving a red Mercedes eastbound on the highway at about 7:45 a.m. At the time, 48-year-old Christian Hunt of Lakeport was driving a gray Jeep on westbound Highway 20 at Road A. Both vehicles were going at 55 miles per hour.
 
For inexplicable reasons, the wheels of the Mercedes lost traction on the roadway surface. It began spinning in a counter-clockwise direction, entered the westbound lane, and then went directly in the path of the Jeep.
 
Reports indicated that Hunt tried to brake and steer the Jeep to the right. However, he was unable to avoid a collision with the Mercedes. As a result, the front end of the Jeep collided with the right side of the Mercedes.
 
Denson died in the crash. Hunt sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Ukiah Valley Medical Center.
 
The Mercedes rested on its wheels facing east. It also partially blocked Highway 20. However, the Jeep faced west, on the north shoulder of the highway. The highway reopened at 9:43 a.m.
