Jamal Lea Arrested in Modesto DUI Crash on Briggsmore Avenue
MODESTO, CA (January 31, 2020) – Officials arrested 40-year-old Modesto resident Jamal Jaron Lea after a DUI crash on Tuesday, January 30.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Modesto Fire Department crews responded to reports of an injury crash on Briggsmore Avenue. It happened between Oakdale Road and Lakewood Avenue.
The involved vehicle, a Hummer SUV, crashed into a pole. Then, according to witnesses, he left the scene in reverse gear. The driver traveled on Briggsmore in the direction of Lakewood.
According to Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear, police officers discovered the Hummer stopped in an eastbound lane of Briggsmore but facing west. It partially blocked a southbound lane of Roselle Avenue, she stated. Roselle becomes Lakewood at the Briggsmore intersection.
The driver, Jamal Jaron Lea, was the sole occupant in the vehicle and was not harmed, Bear stated. Officials booked him into jail on one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
