Woman Dead, Teenagers Injured after Head-On Crash near Jackson Highway
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 24, 2020) — A woman died and five teens sustained injuries in a head-on crash near Jackson Highway on Wednesday, January 22.
According to authorities, the accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m., on Eagles Nest Road, north of Jackson Highway.
A silver Hyundai Sonata crashed into a gray-colored hybrid car carrying five students. The students were on their way to class at Pleasant Grove High School.
The female driver of the Hyundai died in the crash. The five students suffered injuries. Emergency crews rushed the students to two different hospitals — UC Davis Medical Center and Kaiser South.
Investigators stated that they do not believe drugs or alcohol as causes for the incident. Several factors including slick roads, poor visibility, and poor decision-making by the driver of the Hyundai Sonata may have caused the incident.
Elk Grove Unified School District did not release the name of students involved in the crash. The identity of the 28-year-old woman who died in the incident was not yet released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
