Lawrence Sofaly Killed after Marana Multi-Vehicle Crash on 10 Freeway
MARANA, AZ (January 22, 2020) – A 74-year-old man identified as Lawrence Sofaly, 74, of Hondo, Texas, died in a collision on Saturday, January 18.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the incident took place on westbound 10 Freeway near milepost 230, approximately 2 miles east of Pinal Airpark Road.
A vehicle moving eastbound on 10 Freeway crossed over the median and then went into oncoming traffic. Then it hit the vehicle Sofaly was in and another car, the department stated. The department stated they have not yet known why the vehicle crossed over into the westbound lanes. Although officials said that the driver may have been under the influence.
Medics rushed the driver of the vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic and the driver of the vehicle occupied by Sofaly to a hospital with injuries. However, the people in the third vehicle did not report any injuries, the department said.
The crash shut down westbound 10 Freeway at West Tangerine Road for around eight hours on Saturday.
