Kevin Wilson Killed, Craig Nelson Jailed After El Cajon Hit-and-Run

 
EL CAJON, CA (January 21, 2020) — The officials have identified Kevin Wilson of La Mesa as the cyclist who died in a hit-and-run on Dehesa Road Monday.
 
The incident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
56-year-old Craig Wendell Nelson of Julian was driving a 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course. For inexplicable reasons, his vehicle veered into a bike lane east of Willow Glen Drive and rear-ended Wilson.
 
Emergency crews took the 56-year-old Wilson to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego where he was pronounced dead.
 
Meantime, Nelson allegedly kept driving towards the east and south. He then stopped his vehicle on Sloane Canyon Road and fled on foot as per CHP.
 
The officers eventually found the abandoned vehicle, while a helicopter search crew located Nelson in a nearby brushy area.
 
The officers arrested and then booked Nelson into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. His bail is set at $50,000. Arraignment is on Thursday afternoon.
