Man Killed in Saratoga Motorcycle Accident on Highway 9
SARATOGA, CA (January 20, 2020) – A man suffered fatal injuries following a motorcycle accident on Highway 9 on Saturday, January 18.
Around 4:13 p.m., a motorcycle moving north on the winding highway drifted over the center line in a sharp right curve near Heather Heights Road. After that, it crashed with the driver’s side of a Honda sedan moving south.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Ross Lee, the rider then struck the driver’s side of a red Toyota pickup moving south behind the Honda.
The impact ejected him from the motorcycle. Then he was run over by the rear wheels of the pickup truck, investigators determined.
Emergency crews gave treatments to the rider at the scene. However, he still died from his injuries. As of Sunday afternoon, the coroner had no update on the identity of the deceased rider.
At the time of the crash, the motorcycle traveled around 45 mph, Lee said. The posted advisory sign on the curve is 20 mph.
Authorities cleared the crash and reopened the road at 7:23 p.m.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased as they try to piece together what happened. May he rest in peace.
