Man Fatally Struck in Citrus Heights Three-Car Crash on 80 Freeway

 
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (January 21, 2020) — A man died after being struck while exiting his car after a three-car crash on 80 Freeway on Saturday, January 18.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, at around 2 a.m., CHP received reports of a non-fatal three-vehicle crash east of the Antelope CHP scales. Officers stated that all cars involved pulled over onto the right shoulder.
 
After the initial call, CHP received reports that multiple cars struck one of the people involved in the crash.
 
When CHP arrived, they found a 47-year-old Sacramento man that walked into the slow lane. A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox hit him and then he was struck again by a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser, CHP said.
 
All drivers involved in the initial crash and second fatal incident remained at the scene. They all cooperated with authorities.
 
No other information has been released about the collisions. The identity of the deceased was not yet available.
 
Investigators stated that alcohol may have contributed as a factor in the man’s death.
 
The accident shut down the westbound lanes of 80 Freeway in the area at about 2:07 a.m. to 4:24 a.m.
