Two Killed,One Hospitalized after Apple Valley Semi-Truck Crash on 15 Freeway
APPLE VALLEY, CA (January 20, 2020) — A truck driver and a second person died after a fiery semi-truck crash on 15 Freeway on Sunday, January 19.
At about 4:15 a.m., dispatch received reports about an overturned semi on the right shoulder of the freeway, south of Hodge Road.
A second tractor-trailer struck the overturned semi which caused a fire.
When San Bernardino County Firefighters arrived, they found both of the cabs on the semis completely destroyed. They were not able to verify what caused the fire inside the trailer.
Officers saw the placard that read “dangerous” on the burning Dominion Freight trailer. This prompted San Bernardino County Firefighters to upgrade the call to a hazmat response. They later determined the contents as pallets of cigarette lighters.
The trailer of the overturned semi did not have any content.
Emergency crews rushed one patient by ground to LLUMC. Another patient denied treatment at the scene. Two people were confirmed dead.
The incident closed all lanes of the southbound 15 Freeway for several hours as officials worked to put out the fire.
Victorville – CHP handles the investigation for the official cause of the incident.
