Miesha Singleton Dead after Oakland Hit-and-Run Crash on 98th Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (January 20, 2020) – A mother identified as Miesha Ellese Singleton, 40, of San Leandro, died after a hit-and-run crash on Friday, January 17.
At about 3:22 p.m., Oakland Police Department said that they received a call about a juvenile struck by a vehicle. The incident happened at the 1800 block of 98th Avenue across the street from Elmhurst United Middle School.
Police later said the victim, Singleton, was an adult female and a member of the school community. Singleton died at the scene.
A vehicle struck Singleton while she tried crossing the street in front of the school to pick up her child. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.
A witness said that she saw a white four-door sedan speed by. It went around 45 miles an hour in the center turn lane to avoid other cars that were waiting at the signal light.
Police are still looking for the suspect vehicle. They describe the vehicle as a newer model Nissan Maxima. It sustained damage to the passenger side.
An Oakland Unified School District spokesman said the victim’s child was not with her and did not witness the incident.
Police interviewed witnesses and looked for videos to help them identify the hit-and-run driver and vehicle.
Our deepest condolences remain with the family and friends of Miesha Singleton as they try to piece together what happened.
