26-Year-Old Maria Herrera Struck, Killed by Vehicle near Highway 99

 
TULARE COUNTY, CA (January 18, 2020) – Authorities identified 26-year-old Maria Herrera of Porterville as the pedestrian struck and killed by car on Bishop Street, early Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 2:00 AM. Due to unknown reasons, Herrera was lying on the ground south of Avenue 80. There, a northbound 1983 Chevrolet struck the victim near Highway 99.
 
Emergency responders rushed Herrera to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, where she later died. Meanwhile, the driver and the passenger of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
Investigators ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the fatal crash. They also noted that Herrera was wearing dark clothing and the incident happened in foggy conditions. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
