SACRAMENTO, CA (January 17, 2020) — A 12-year-old girl died in a pedestrian accident on 80 Freeway in Sacramento Wednesday night.
 
The incident happened at around 10:00 p.m. near the Watt Avenue exit.
 
The authorities said 12-year-old Kendra Czekaj was running across the northbound lanes of 80 Freeway near the Watt Avenue exit. She was reportedly chasing after a 16-year-old girl who ran away from the Children’s Receiving Home.
 
Both girls were staying at the group home as per the officials. It is a foster care facility that serves as an emergency shelter for kids with nowhere else to go. It backs up to the Watt Avenue ramp.
 
The California Highway Patrol said there was no overhead lighting where the accident occurred. So, the drivers were not able to see someone running from the right shoulder in front of them.
