Muni Train Fatally Hits Man in San Francisco

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 15, 2020) — A man suffered fatal injuries in a train accident at Bayshore Boulevard and Sunnydale Avenue early Sunday.
 
The crash occurred at around 1:15 a.m. according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
 
In a statement, the agency said that a person approached the platform while a train was waiting for the light at its final stop before going to the Muni yard for the night. The person reportedly attempted to open the train doors then climbed over the train’s safety straps.
 
Following that, the man sat on the coupler that connects two train cars. However, when the operator headed toward the Muni yard, the man fell off and was struck by a train car.
 
Reports indicated that the train operator didn’t know that the man was hit by the train car. Another operator called the authorities to report the man’s body on the tracks. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 7 a.m.
 
The San Francisco police and the Muni Systems Safety handle the investigation of the fatal incident.
