Amber Leist Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Riverside Drive [Los Angeles, CA]

Sheriff Detective Amber Leist Struck and Killed while Helping Elderly Woman

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 14, 2020) – An off-duty Sheriff’s detective identified Amber Leist died after being hit by a car in Valley Village on Sunday, January 12.
 
The incident happened at around 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Whitsett Avenue in Valley Village. 41-year-old Leist helped an elderly man and woman who fell in the crosswalk get back on her feet.
 
After helping the couple safely reach the sidewalk, Leist went to return to her car. However, as Leist ran back to her vehicle, an oncoming car struck her. Paramedics brought her to the hospital, where she died.
 
Deputy Leist is survived by her two sons, including one who is with the Navy, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
 
The Los Angeles West Hollywood Station and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office mourned her death and honored her service in an emotional procession.
