1 Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway [National City, CA]
Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5
NATIONAL CITY, CA (January 11, 2020) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway, Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 4:51 AM. A black Toyota Tacoma hit a parked black Jeep on the left shoulder of 5 Freeway. Then, the Tacoma flipped and hit another car near Highway 54.
Emergency responders pronounced one of the drivers dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, a teenage driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The driver of the Tacoma truck did not stop to render aid and fled the scene on foot. Investigators encourage witnesses to cooperate and reach out as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
