39-Year-Old Jesus Echeverria Identified as Bicyclist Killed in Fresno DUI
FRESNO, CA (January 8, 2020) – Authorities identified 39-year-old Jesus Echeverria of Fresno as the bicyclist hit and killed by a DUI driver in Northeast Fresno, Wednesday morning.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident happened shortly after midnight. A vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Deshon Mayo, was approaching Fresno Street when it hit a bicyclist near Bullard Avenue.
Emergency responders rushed Echeverria to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Meanwhile, Mayo did not stop to render aid and attempted to flee the area. Officers spotted the vehicle leaving and pulled Mayo over.
Authorities arrested Mayo for DUI and hit-and-run. Investigators say the suspect has a previous DUI, and he will be booked into the Fresno County jail.
