10-Year-Old Dead after Landers Off-Road Vehicle Crash on Shawnee Trail

 
LANDERS, CA (January 9, 2020) – A 10-year-old from Anaheim died following an off-road vehicle crash on Shawnee Trail over the weekend.
 
The incident happened at around 7:10 p.m. near the intersection of Shawnee Trail and University Boulevard, north of Landers.
 
According to the CHP, a 16-year-old driver from Hacienda Heights and the 10-year-old passenger rode westbound on University Boulevard. They moved toward the intersection of Shawnee Trail in a 2013 Wildcat side-by-side off-highway vehicle.
 
At around the same time, a Landers resident driving a Ford Fusion moved northbound on Shawnee Trail near the University Boulevard intersection.
 
CHP revealed the 16-year-old driver failed to stop for cross traffic. Then the vehicle collided into the passenger side of the Ford.
 
First responders rushed the 10-year-old and the Ford driver to Hi-Desert Medical Center. They later airlifted the 10-year-old to Loma Linda Medical Center where he died.
 
At this moment, there is no report if the Ford Driver or the 16-year-old sustained any injuries. There was no mention of another person transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center.
 
Officials do not believe drugs and/or alcohol helped to the collision.
