Misti Vaughn Fatally Hurt after Escondido Crash on 15 Freeway
ESCONDIDO, CA (January 3, 2020) — A 29-year-old Vista woman identified as Misti Dawn Vaughn died in a multi-vehicle collision on Monday, December 23.
According to information from the California Highway Patrol, at around 8:00 a.m., Vaughn drove on the transition ramp from eastbound Highway 78 to northbound 15 Freeway. Then her Ford Ranger spun out and veered to the left across freeway lanes.
A big rig then struck the pickup on the passenger side. After that, it was also struck by a Toyota 4Runner, CHP said.
Paramedic brought Vaughn to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. As a result, they admitted her to the intensive care unit and was given a poor prognosis for recovery, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. She died at the hospital at 10:12 p.m. Thursday.
The big rig driver, a 50-year-old Murrieta man, and the Toyota driver, a 19-year-old Santee woman, stayed at the scene. However, both were not hurt, according to the CHP.
Authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
