John Atcheson Killed after Pickup Truck Crash on Rancho Bernardo Road [San Diego, CA]

John Atcheson Fatally Hurt in San Diego Pickup Truck Accident

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 9, 2020) – A 71-year-old man identified as John Benson Atcheson died in a traffic crash on Monday, January 6.
 
San Diego police Officer John Buttle said the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of Rancho Bernardo Road and Meandro Drive.
 
Atcheson drove a 2018 Chevrolet Volt on Meandro. Then he pulled out in front of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma moving east on Rancho Bernardo Road. The pickup collided into the driver’s side of Atcheson’s vehicle, Buttle stated.
 
Medics rushed Atcheson from the scene in grave condition. He succumbed to his injuries in an ambulance on the way to a hospital.
 
Emergency responders brought the driver of the Toyota pickup, a 23-year-old woman, to a hospital. She received medical treatment for a broken collarbone and a broken tailbone, Buttle stated.
 
It was not immediately determined if impairment played a role in the crash.
 
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
