Geoffrey Velez Fatally Struck by DUI Driver on La Cholla Avenue [Tucson, AZ]

20-Year-Old Geoffrey Velez Killed in Pedestrian Crash on La Cholla Avenue

 
TUCSON, AZ (January 1, 2020) – Authorities identified 20-year-old Geoffrey Velez as the pedestrian killed in a crash near Fountains Avenue, Wednesday morning.
 
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at about 6:15 AM. Velez chose to walk home instead of driving after drinking on New Year’s Eve. A short time later, a vehicle struck him on La Cholla Avenue.
 
Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate Velez, but he later died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Maurice Williams, remained and cooperated with investigators.
 
Investigators ultimately arrested Williams for manslaughter and driving under the influence. Then, he was booked into Pima County Jail. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
