Andrew Martinez Killed, Robert James Arrested in Manteca DUI Crash
MANTECA, CA (January 8, 2020) – A 31-year-old bicyclist identified as Andrew Martinez of Manteca died after a DUI crash on Sunday, January 5.
The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Ridge Drive and South Main Street. The driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Robert James, allegedly struck the bicyclist. Then he drove away.
Witnesses pulled the bicyclist from the path of oncoming cars. Paramedics tried lifesaving efforts to save Matinez. However, he died at the scene, Manteca police said
A short time later, James turned himself into the authorities. They arrested James on charges of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and felony DUI.
