Susan Palmer Killed after Huntington Beach DUI Accident
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (January 7, 2020) – A 61-year-old woman identified as Susan Palmer died following a head-on DUI crash on Wednesday, January 1.
Huntington Beach police Sgt. Eric Warken said the accident occurred at around 9:25 p.m. on Gothard Street around Cedar Avenue.
A 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by a 17-year-old boy from Westminster traveled northbound in southbound lanes on Gothard Street. Then it collided head-on into a 2016 Kia Soul. The impact caused major damage to both cars, Warken stated.
The driver and front-seat passenger in the Soul complained of pain. Palmer, who was in the back seat suffered major internal injuries, he said. Paramedics transported her to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she died.
The teenage driver had minor injuries. Officials found out that he is under the influence of alcohol, Warken said.
Officers arrested the teen driver on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
