Chandler Lin and Donald Mcrae Killed, Aurelio Castaneda Arrested after Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Accident
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 7, 2020) – Two people identified as 18-year-old Chandler Bay Lin and 24-year-old Donald Angelo Mcrae died in a hit-and-run crash.
The accident happened on the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Hosking Road exit at around 5:45 p.m Friday, January 3.
According to CHP, a dark-colored Elantra struck the rear of a semi-truck moving in the slow lane. The sedan ended up underneath the truck’s trailer killing two people inside the sedan. Paramedics transported the third person in the sedan with major injuries.
After the first accident, a second vehicle crashed with the Elantra. The driver of that vehicle stayed on the scene.
CHP says that after the first incident, the driver of the semi-truck fled the scene. CHP Sgt. Richard Pierce said a witness followed the truck. The witness alleges the driver of the semi-truck of the removed windshield debris from the truck’s trailer on White Lane just east of Highway 99.
According to CHP, the driver continued on Union Avenue and onto Highway 204. Then CHP officers and County sheriff’s deputies eventually pulled him over in Oildale.
Officers identified the semi-truck driver as 52-year-old Aurelio Castaneda of Tulare. They arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
