Andy Acuna Jr. Fatally Injured after Perris Fiery Car Crash on 215 Freeway
PERRIS, CA (January 3, 2020) — One person identified as Andy Ralphie Acuna Jr., 19, of Riverside, died after a fiery single-car crash on Christmas night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports around 6:50 p.m. about the crash on the northbound side of 215 Freeway. It happened just between Van Buren and Harley Knox boulevards, fire officials stated.
Witnesses told responding CHP officers that the car crashed into a bridge. Then it overturned and caught fire, according to initial reports.
CHP Officer Juan Quintero said in a news release that both the driver and passenger did not wear their seatbelts. The impact ejected both from the vehicle.
The driver, Acuna Jr., died at the scene.
A male passenger who has not been identified sustained serious injuries. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, Quintero said.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 7:10 p.m. and temporarily shut down all northbound lanes. All lanes reopened at 9:11 p.m.
CHP’s Riverside office is investigating the incident.
