Police Arrest Ana Mendoza-Hernandez after Suspected DUI Crash in Vacaville
VACAVILLE, CA (January 3, 2020) — The police arrested 28-year-old Ana Mendoza-Hernandez following an alleged DUI crash on Riverdale Avenue Wednesday morning.
The incident happened after a New Year’s Eve celebration at around 2 a.m. The officers said Mendoza-Hernandez got into her Honda Civic and attempted a three-point turn. However, she ended up crashing into a retaining wall and into Vanessa Cornwall-Chiu’s home. The back end of the car ended up pressed into the living room.
According to the witnesses, Mendoza-Hernandez was still accelerating even after the crash. The car was redlining.
Cornwall-Chiu, who is pregnant, said Mendoza-Hernandez was trying to take off so she was gunning it. As a result, the house filled with exhaust fumes. She said she and her husband immediately called 911. Her 3-year-old daughter was also home at the time of the crash.
Meantime, the neighbors eventually got Mendoza-Hernandez to turn off her car before the Vacaville police officers arrived. The officers believed that Mendoza-Hernandez was intoxicated and placed her under arrest.
