4 Hospitalized after Train Crashes into Car near California Street [Ventura, CA]

Four Injured in Train Crash on California Street near Harbor Boulevard

 
VENTURA, CA (December 27, 2019) – Four people were hospitalized following a train crash on California Street, Friday evening.
 
According to the Ventura Police Department, the incident happened at about 7:00 PM. A 79-year-old man had been driving a car with three passengers when he stopped on the railroad tracks.
 
As per reports, the driver became confused as the railroad crossing lights came on and the crossing arms came down.
 
An engineer operating an oncoming Union Pacific Railroad freight train attempted to avoid the collision, but could not stop in time. After that, the train crashed into the front corner panel of the vehicle’s passenger side.
 
One passenger in the vehicle, a 37-year-old man, suffered major injuries. Meanwhile, the driver and his two other passengers sustained minor injuries. All four victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment and evaluation.
 
Investigators ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the collision. Police ask witnesses to call (805) 339-4451 as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
