Michael Knittel Dead, Joshua Sanders Arrested in Riverbank DUI Accident

 
RIVERBANK, CA (December 27, 2019) — Escalon resident Michael Knittel, 54, died following a DUI accident in Riverbank on Friday, December 20.
 
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities responded to a misdemeanor hit-and-run report. Deputies tracked 30-year-old Joshua Timothy Sanders while he left the Modesto area because of the front-car damage of his vehicle.
 
At about 10:20 p.m., authorities noticed Sanders speed through a red light at the intersection of Patterson Road and Oakdale Road. Then he crashed into two vehicles, officials said.
 
Investigators said Knittel died in the collision. However, two others sustained injuries. As a result, emergency transported the injured patients to the hospital.
 
Deputies detained Sanders, who showed signs of alcohol intoxication, officials said. Officials arrested Sanders for multiple charges, including felony DUI.
 
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured patients.
